About This Blog

Nowadays, language learning has become a part of our everyday works; we might be forced to learn a new language at any instance of our life time. Some of us learn a language for job, some others learn for education, and yet others learn for hobby! Whatever your purpose is, this blog is the right choice to learn colloquial Tamil.
There are thousands of Tamil language tutorials out there in the internet. But, this blog stands away from them by many special features. I take intensive care writing each of the blog posts that give 100% assurance of Tamil fluency. Following are the special features that you can expect from this blog.

Completely Planned!
Most of the bloggers write on the fly; they post a new topic as it suddenly sparkled in their mind. But, as previously stated, I write blog with care as intensive as I can. Each lesson is well-planned so as to ease the user in learning the language.

Tamil in Roman Letters
Although Tamil is written in Tamil script or Vattezutthu, I use Roman letters for the following three reasons:
1.       Written Tamil is not the same as spoken Tamil.
2.       Trying to write colloquial Tamil using its own script often end up in a spelling mistake.
3.       Tamil pronunciation system is highly systematic which might be so hard for the beginners.

My Own Tamil Transliteration System
Officially speaking, Tamil is transliterated to Roman letters using the standard, ISO 15919. I do not use this standard because ISO 15919 is again used to transliterate formal or written Tamil which does not suit to write colloquial Tamil. For the complete guide of my own transliteration system, click here.

Real-time Dialogs
Each lesson carries two dialogs which are presented in the way how Tamils in Tamil Nadu speak. You can freely imitate the dialogs in your day to day life. Like any other language, Tamil has many dialects. Each dialect differs from others and in some times speakers of a particular dialect may fail to understand the speakers of another! Anyway, you need not feel frustrated; because, I use “neutral dialect” that is understood by all of the Tamil speakers. Personally speaking, I speak Tamil in a neutral way. Most of the Tamil movies speak neutral dialect of Tamil.

Vocabulary Listings
At the end of each lesson, you can see a complete list of vocabulary used in that particular lesson. Each word is defined clearly with both its meaning and grammatical information.

Speech Generation Techniques
I have thought to give you suggestions to generate free flow of Tamil using ideas wherever possible. This will aid you to avoid hesitations and lack of words when you try to speak up in Tamil language.

No Overuse of Grammatical Terms
All the lessons are written so as to cover all sorts of the visitors. It does not matter if you do not know linguistics. Each language element is introduced with simple terms and with sample sentences.

Ultimately, I can assure you that this blog will help you speak Tamil just like the natives. Go ahead and enjoy speaking Tamil! Váztthukkaļ! (All the best!)
